Yes. VMEP cuts custom foam inserts for motorsport flight cases in-house, either as part of a new case or as a standalone CNC foam cutting job. The foam is CNC routed at our workshop in Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, to your CAD file or to a file we draw for you, as 2D cut-outs or full 3D foam routing.
Inserts are priced by the layout, not by the case, so every one is quoted: a single insert for a set of air jack stands is a different piece of work from 24 drawers of brake disc storage. On a new bespoke case the insert is built inside the normal window of 3 to 14 days from signed-off specification. Send the make and model of what is going in, its dimensions, or a STEP, IGES, DXF, DWG, STL or PDF file, and we come back within 1 working day with a price and a lead time.

What foam inserts has VMEP already built?
These are all current catalogue cases, so you can see the insert and the price before you ask for your own. Prices are starting prices, ex VAT.
- Hub stands. 90mm thick routed foam inserts hold our hub stands in the drawers of the VME-SU10 set-up equipment case (bare case from £1,115).
- Air jack stands. The VME-AJF1 carries 3 or 4 Krontec two stage stands in a routed insert, from £390.
- Air jack elephant feet and skates. The VME-AJF4 has drawers with routed foam to fit the elephant feet, from £985.
- Brake discs and pads. The VME-Custom18 has 24 drawers with routed inserts that each take up to 2 x 400mm diameter discs, from £5,830.
- CNC tooling. The VME-Draw2 machinist case takes made to measure inserts for tools and tool holders. The case is from £985 and the inserts are quoted on top.
- Simulators. The VME-Box34 can be made with foam cut-outs for screens and mounting frameworks, from £1,210.
- Hospitality. The VME-HC1 comes with CNC cut foam for the kettle, cups and glasses, from £975.

Routed insert, shadow foam or foam lining: which do I need?
They are three different things, and only one of them is cut to the part.
- Foam lining protects the inside faces of the case. Our general storage boxes, scale cases and fuel transport cases are foam lined as standard. It stops contents marking the panels but it does not hold anything in position.
- Shadow foam is a sheet you cut yourself around your own tools. The VME-TB8 tool box is built for it: five 600 x 420 x 75mm drawers, supplied with 30mm thick shadow foam sheets, from £825. Right for a hand tool set you want to lay out yourself.
- A CNC routed insert is cut by us to the exact part, with a pocket for each item. Right for anything expensive, awkward or fragile that has to arrive in the same place it left: hub stands, air jack stands, brake discs, tooling, screens.

How much do custom foam inserts cost?
There is no list price, because the cost follows the layout: how many pockets, how deep, 2D or 3D, and how many identical inserts. It is quoted with the case, or on its own for a standalone job. Where a catalogue case is sold without inserts the listing says so, as on the VME-Draw2. For the price of the case around the insert, see how much a bespoke motorsport flight case costs.
How long do foam inserts take?
As part of a bespoke case, inside the build window of 3 to 14 days from signed-off specification. Fitted interiors, foam inserts included, add bench time, so a case with routed drawers sits nearer the long end than an empty box of the same size. Standalone foam cutting is quoted per job with its own lead time, confirmed before any work starts. The clock starts when the specification is signed off, not at first enquiry. Detail on the lead times page.
What do you need from me to quote an insert?
- What is going in the foam: make and model, and how many of each
- Dimensions, or a photograph with a tape measure in shot
- A CAD file if you have one: STEP, IGES, DXF, DWG, STL or PDF. If you do not, we can produce the CAD from a measured part, a sketch or photos
- The inside dimensions of the drawer or case the insert has to fit
- The date you need it in hand
Send a brief for a foam insert, or upload a drawing or CAD file. We come back within 1 working day.
Do you cut foam for cases that are not motorsport?
Yes. The same router cuts the inserts in our hospitality and simulator cases, and the workshop takes standalone jobs from outside racing. See CNC routing and custom flight cases.
