3D CAD Design

We have many years experience designing & manufacturing equipment, flight cases & race cars.

Alongside our product range we can also offer a design service using 3D CAD software. This could be in the form of reverse engineering or complete design projects whereby design files & drawings are provided, or the manufactured item too.

What we can do

  • 2D and 3D CAD design
  • Reverse engineering from measured parts, sketches or photos
  • Production engineering drawings
  • Sheet metal design with flat-pattern output
  • Complete assembly models
  • Surfacing where required
  • Experience with finite element analysis

File formats

We can supply completed CAD models as .STP, .STL, IGES and .DXF, and 2D engineering drawings as PDF. Other formats can be produced on request.

From design through to manufactured parts

Once a design is signed off we can take it through to finished parts using our in-house CNC routing, CNC milling and turning, laser etching, 3D printing, welding and fabrication, and assembly. Or we can hand the files over for you to produce elsewhere.

Where to start

Send us what you have: an existing part you want re-engineered, a brief, a hand sketch, photos, or a CAD model that needs refining. We will come back within one working day with a scope and a quote.

Please get in touch via the contact page to discuss your project.

VMEP Ltd offers 2D and 3D CAD design and reverse engineering from its Bidford-on-Avon workshop in Warwickshire, with the option to take a design through to finished manufactured parts in-house.

Frequently asked questions

What is reverse engineering and what do you need from me?

Reverse engineering means producing a CAD model of a part that has no existing drawing. We can work from the measured part itself, from sketches, or from photos. Send us what you have and we will tell you what else we need.

What CAD formats do you supply?

Completed models as STEP, STL, IGES and DXF, and 2D engineering drawings as PDF. Other formats can be produced on request.

What design work can you take on?

2D and 3D CAD design, reverse engineering, production engineering drawings, sheet metal design with flat-pattern output, complete assembly models, and surfacing where required. We also have experience with finite element analysis.

Can you manufacture the parts once the design is signed off?

Yes. We can take a signed-off design through to finished parts using our in-house CNC routing, CNC milling and turning, laser marking, 3D printing, welding and fabrication, and assembly. Or we can hand the files over for you to produce elsewhere.

Can you design from just a photo or a hand sketch?

Yes. An existing part, a brief, a hand sketch, photos, or a CAD model that needs refining are all workable starting points.

How quickly will you come back with a scope and price?

Within one working day, with a scope and a quote.
