What is in a standard VMEP rack case

Taking the 12U VME-R2 as the reference build:

  • 12U of 19" racking strips, 550mm between the racking mounting faces
  • Front and rear covers both removable, so you get access to both ends of the rack
  • Four braked castor wheels
  • Handles on all sides
  • External dimensions 800D x 540W x 725H mm
  • Available with or without a protective cover

The rest of the ladder follows the same pattern in 14U, 16U, 17U, 18U, 19U, 20U, 21U, 22U, 23U, 24U, 25U and 26U. There is also a 19" racking case with a full racking enclosure if you need the rack fully boxed rather than open front and rear.

What people put in them

Timing and comms gear, PDUs and power distribution, patch panels, network switches, broadcast and video processing equipment, race electronics and data logging. Anything that lives in a 19" rack and has to survive being moved between a workshop, a truck and a paddock.

Why they are built here

3D CAD design, CNC routing, fibre laser marking, CNC milling and turning, 3D printing and the frame fabrication, assembly and packing all happen at Unit 20, Bidavon Industrial Estate, Bidford-on-Avon. For those steps there is no subcontractor queue to join, which is why the bespoke build window is 3 to 14 days from signed-off specification rather than a number of weeks.

Bought-in hardware is the genuine exception. Anything we do not make ourselves depends on supplier availability, and that is quoted separately and stated on your quote before you commit.

Team and channel branding

Logo plates and control labelling are marked in-house on our fibre laser, so branding a case does not mean sending it out to a third party and waiting. Tell us what you want marked when you send the spec.

Sending us a specification

For a custom rack case the useful things to include are the equipment going in with make, model and weight, the U height and rack depth you need, whether you need front and rear access, how it will be transported, any branding, the delivery postcode, and the date you need it in hand. You can upload a drawing, STEP file or a photograph with a tape measure in shot if that is easier than describing it.

We aim to come back on a scoping enquiry within one working day.
